About Us

Gateway Association, Inc. was founded as the Madison County United Cerebral Palsy Association in 1953 and became a United Way agency in 1959. The focus of the agency grew to include services for children from birth to age 6 with various special needs; therefore the name was changed to Gateway Association, Inc. in 1985. Respite services that provide short term, temporary care for the purpose of providing relief and time to the parent or primary caregiver of an individual with special needs was added to Gateway’s programming in 1986.

In 1999, the agency expanded services to welcome children of all abilities into the part-day preschool program. In 2007, the agency again expanded services to include a full-day child care program that welcomed all children. The Gateway philosophy is that all children have special needs, and an inclusive approach to early childhood education is the best way for children to develop appropriate skills while learning and growing together.

We believe early intervention is the key to unlocking a child’s potential. The supportive prevention services Gateway provides can change a family’s life by eliminating environmental barriers. Gateway Association provides a continuing base of assistance and referrals to insure that families receive the fullest benefit of services in the community. Gateway Association is organized for charitable and educational purposes as a 501 (c) 3 not for profit organization.
